Julep Maven Box Review

Hi again everyone! Today I’ve got a lot of goodies to share with you, so I’ll just jump right in.

Before we get to the box, I just wanted to do a quick update on the Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment.  I love this product! On Sunday night after I’d been wearing it for a few hours, I noticed that I could actually feel my nails absorbing more oxygen.  It’s hard to describe but basically it just felt like I wasn’t wearing anything on my nails and it felt like they were breathing.  The product also closed up a small split I had on one of my nails.  This, ladies and gentlemen, is proof of an amazing product.  If you’ve got split or peeling nails, please buy this product! It’s a lifesaver.

Now on to tonight’s product review….

I ordered the Julep Maven Bombshell Intro Box because it contains two nail polishes that I just had to have,  Eva (a pretty raspberry creme) and Sienna (a sophisticated, shimmery gold).  This box also includes Instant Warming Foot Scrub and I really wanted to try this product out because my feet take a lot of abuse at work.  I also purchased the Freedom Polymer Top Coat as an add-on to the Maven Box.  At $6.99, this was a great deal.

The box also included a sample of the Glycolic Hand Scrub.  I’ll start off with the two samples (I received a sample of the Rock Star Hand Cream with my Oxygen Nail Treatment).

Glycolic Hand Scrub and Rock Star Hand Cream

The Glycolic Hand Scrub is an apricot seed scrub that contains glycolic acid.  It has a nice floral scent and wonderful texture.  It’s everything I would hope for in an exfoliant.  My hands were amazingly soft after using it.  I then applied the Rock Star Hand Cream.  This also has a nice, soft scent and is not greasy.  I applied a little too much, so it took a few minutes to completely absorb into my skin, but it left my hands soft and moisturized.  I would recommend both products.

The Instant Warming Foot Scrub is also an excellent product.  It contains natural pumice and capsaicin (what makes chili peppers hot).  The scrub made my feet very soft and smooth and it really did warm up on contact.  I loved using this product and I will definitely be buying a replacement once this tube is empty.

And now my favorite part of the box, the nail polish!

Nail products:Eva, Sienna and Freedom Polymer Top Coat

Nail products:
Eva, Sienna and Freedom Polymer Top Coat

I am so excited to tell you that both Eva and Sienna are one-coaters! Finding this out was a “sweet baby Jesus in a tuxedo shirt” kinda moment.  I was surprised that Eva was a one-coater, but the formula was beautiful.  Application was smooth with absolutely no streaking for both colors.  I’m especially impressed that Sienna gave such great coverage in one coat since it’s a metallic.

And last but certainly not least, we need to talk about the Freedom Polymer Top Coat.  This product is awesome! It’s meant to be a substitute for a gel manicure.  You put the top coat on after your nails are dry and it cures in 5 minutes in natural light.  You can also cure it under a 60-watt light bulb in 2 minutes (this is what I did).  The top coat dries to a high gloss finish and definitely has a gel manicure feeling to it.  I’m excited to see how it makes my polish hold up to cashiering.  Usually nail polish doesn’t make it through a whole one of my shifts at Lowe’s, so I’ll keep you guys updated.  One thing I didn’t like is that my brush had a little piece of debris (probably part of the brush) on it, so that stuck to my thumb nail.  Other than that I really love the product.

For my manicure I wanted something quick and easy since it’s late.  I used Eva as my main color and did an accent nail in Sienna.  Definitely not the best manicure, but the color combination is beautiful.

All pictures below show one coat of polish.  The first three are without top coat and the last two are with Freedom Polymer Top Coat.

Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment

Happy Sunday to all! I hope you’re all enjoying what’s left of the weekend.  Today is my day off so I’ve been resting and relaxing my feet today.  Remember when I told you I had some exciting new stuff to share? Well here it is! In addition to this post, I’ve got some other awesome products to write about, including a Julep Maven Box and some Zoya and OPI polishes, so stay tuned for those.

I used to have really strong nails, but since I’ve started polishing (and removing polish) often, they’ve started to peel, separate and break easier.  Also, working as a cashier is rough on my nails.  I’ve been looking for a product to use so I can get my nails back to their former glory.  I then stumbled upon Julep’s Oxygen Nail Treatment.

Here’s the product description from Julep’s website:

Complete nail care and make-up all in one bottle. Made with a patented Hexanal formulation, nails are restructured to a stronger, thicker, and smoother condition in just one stroke. Advanced plant stem cell complex provides anti-aging benefits, while ground-breaking oxygen technology forms a nonocclusive film on the nail, proving resistant to water penetration and improving the permeability to oxygen. Results are nails that are structurally stronger, and less prone to breakage and splitting. How to use: Apply in layers on clean nails to achieve desired high gloss and subtle “Nail Makeup.” Use once or twice a week regularly to promote strong, healthy nail growth.

Sounds good, right? I’m hoping this will help my nails.  I just applied the product today and my nails already feel better.  I’ll have to give a complete update once I’ve used it a few more times.

So far I really love the Oxygen Nail Treatment.  It applies smoothly and dries to a high-shine glossy finish.  It’s also got a slight pink tint so it reminds me of a French manicure without the white tips.  It’s perfect for wearing when you don’t feel like polishing your nails.  This will contribute to your nails’ health as well.

Without further ado, here are some pictures of the product.  I made sure to take some pictures of my naked nails for reference.  Pictures show two coats of the Oxygen Nail Treatment.  By the way, I’ve got to hand it to Julep for their amazing presentation.  You can tell they really care about their product by the way it arrives.  The packaging is just beautiful.

Essie Madison Ave-Hue (Spring 2013)

Hello everyone! I’m sorry for disappearing on you all for awhile.  Last month I got a job at Lowe’s Home Improvement so I’ve been very busy and unable to find the motivation to paint my nails (gasp!), let alone take pictures and post about the polishes.  I did really miss my blog and all of my readers, so I’m going to try and make a better effort to post here.  I’ve got some exciting new things to share with everyone.

Yesterday I went to Ulta and picked up a color from Essie’s Spring 2013 collection.  The color is called Madison Ave-Hue and is a beautiful Barbie pink.  Essie describes it as chic upper east side pink steps out in style, turning any ensemble into a million dollar baby. cha-ching.

This is only my second Essie polish, but I must say that the brand is growing on me.  The formula for this polish was amazing and was almost a one-coater.  No streaking or bald spots can be found!  The color is astonishing and very shiny.  I feel so girly wearing this polish and I think it’s the perfect color for spring and summer.  I also love the subtle silver shimmer in the color.

I hope you enjoy the pictures below.  I used two coats of polish for this manicure.  The first three of my nails are without a top coat, so you can really see how shiny the polish is.  The others feature Seche Vite top coat, and in the last picture taken in natural light, you can really see the shimmer and get an appreciation for this astonishing color.  I’m in love.

PS: Please excuse the peeling on my cuticles! I really lathered my hands up with lotion before taking these pictures.  Working in a hardware store does a number on your hands.

So what do you think? Are you going to grab Madison Ave-Hue, or any of the other colors from the Essie Spring 2013 collection?
